Town Council to discuss two key resolutions in Sept. 9 meeting

PDF

On Sept. 9, The Blacksburg Town Council will be considering two resolutions that will have a major effect on future growth in the town:

  • The North Main Street Traffic Improvements Project - The Council is looking at a resolution that will authorize right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation, and other preparations for this major project. The project will reduce Main Street between Price's Fork and College Ave. from two lanes in each direction to just one, with a raised median. A large roundabout is planned for the intersection of N. Main and Price's Fork. Read about the project here.
  • The Sonic Drive-in at First and Main - After rejecting a Special Use Permit for a Sonic Drive-in restaurant, and after the developers of the project sued the town, falsely charging that the denial was “political retribution,” the Town Council and Fairmount Properties may be on the verge of a settlement on a modified Sonic proposal. But the Town Council will have to obtain a court order that will allow consideration of a new Special Use Permit application.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 PM in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 South Main Street, Blacksburg. See the full agenda here.
